Black Heritage Month

During Black Heritage Month in February, we particularly highlight the legacy of Canadians of African ancestry, past and present. This is a time to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of people of African ancestry to the development and culture of the Church and of Canada. The theme for Black Heritage Month 2022 is February and Forever: Celebrating Black Heritage today and every day.

This month, SJRH will be participating in various lessons in the class, as well as presentations that celebrate Black excellence.

  1. SJRH is thrilled to share that on February 24th our grades 4-8 students will participate in a virtual workshop, presented by the Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum. The Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum (CMIM) presents an educational, interactive, African-centered BHM presentation featuring 5 African Canadian Female Innovators and Inventors and their contributions to Science and Technology and engages the issue of Diversity in STEM as essential to Canada’s growth.

  2. On behalf of the York Region Alliance Of African Canadian Communities (YRAACC), students, their parents, and friends are invited to the 5th Annual YRAACC Black Heritage Month event. The theme this year is Black Health, Well-Being, and Resilience through Ubuntu – I am because we are.
